A Club for American Car Enthusiasts
TIM'S CORNER
New location and great weather made 2011 NSRA Inspection Day a huge hit After seven years of hosting the Annual NSRA Inspection Day at Burns Park in North Little Rock, Classic American Muscle and Streetrods Car Club (CAMS) moved the venue to Pulaski Tech College (PTC), exit 128 off I-30 in Little Rock. And based on the attendance and comments, the move was well accepted. A record 140 plus cars and trucks made the trip. Vehicles were displayed for nearly 4 city blocks on the PTC parking lot. And I must have walked it10 times as I scurried to get a close-up view of each new vehicle as it arrived … no matter where it was parked. This year the event was held simultaneously with the Arkansas State Championship Chili Cook-off. I was one of the final judges and after tasting 21 different bowls of chili I went home and took a nap. Dinner would wait. The chili cook-off added some “spice” to the day’s activities. The crack team of Ronnie Clark, Bobbie Clark, Tommy Garland, Jim Bemis and Roger Barnhill were busy inspecting 73 NSRA member vehicles that attended and David Justus was presented the Safety Award. Roger is the new South Central Chief Divisional Safety Inspector and Ronnie Clark is the new Arkansas State Safety Representative. Eight new members joined NSRA during the daylong event. Refreshments were provided free of charge by the local Golden Corral Restaurant. Advance Auto Parts provided plenty of prizes and the Home Depot tool box was won by Rachelle Chism of Sherwood. Club members helped with parking, gave away prizes and generally served as ambassadors for NSRA. Crystal Newton was kind enough to provide music and a sound system for announcements. Proceeds from the toolbox raffle were over $1,000, providing for a nice donation for Treatment Homes, Inc., which provides caring for foster children with special needs. CAMS has been providing financial assistance to the organization for several years and it is the club's charity of choice. Pulaski Tech was a great location with a café for eating breakfast and lunch, nice clean indoor bathrooms and inside seating areas for weather-beaten rodders. Inspections were complete by mid-afternoon and the annual hotrod “coming out” event of the spring was done for another year. Now the 2011 hotrod season can officially begin in Arkansas. CAMS president, Garry Campbell, said the club would once again host the event in March 2012. Thanks again to our wonderful sponsors and supporters. Without their continued support, CAMS would be unable to put on such a quality event with no registration fee.
